TENNET
Tennet manages the high-voltage grid in the Netherlands and has operations in Germany. With more than 23,000 kilometres of high-voltage lines, Tennet ensures a safe power supply to 41 million end-users.
The organisation is responsible for maintaining high-voltage connections. Safety and security are crucial here. One element of safety is that only authorised and qualified personnel are allowed on high-voltage sites. The process of establishing and monitoring this access is called the designation process.
"The process can now be done within 1 day and the organisation is able to continuously adjust the process based on changing circumstances."
Our approach
The current designation process is based on paper forms, excel sheets, exchange of data by mail and various experts deciding on granting access based on their knowledge and experience. This results in a lot of manual processing of data, corrections, delays and difficulties in tracking the progress of the process. Turnaround time was reduced from 22 days to 10 days by a lean project, but further optimisation is limited by current ICT (Excel and e-mail). Improven carried out a project to optimise and digitise this process directly with a low-code solution with the aim of control, acceleration and flexibility.
Result
Using our Flexible Process Automation approach, we redesigned the process together with the customer in a number of workshops and a lead time of just a few weeks. This design was done with AgileApps, a low-code solution from SoftwareAg, which also directly digitised the process. By doing the workshops together with the customer, they also directly have the function of training and transfer with which the customer is able to model in the system itself after this project and thus continuously improve the process with it. The result is a process that is fully digitised, which is in control through the use of business rules, source data and an audit trail and where paper, excel and mail have been completely eliminated. The process can now be implemented within 1 day and the organisation is able to continuously adapt the process based on changing circumstances.
