Facilicom Group

Facilicom Group is an independent family business with over 32,000 employees. Genuinely Dutch in origin and with a size that says 'you'. But if you say you, they will. In the Netherlands, they are known for brands such as Gom, Trigion, Facilicom Solutions and Incluzio. Working together to create an inspiring living environment for everyone. That is Facilicom's mission, that is what they do it for. The organisation operates in the Netherlands, Belgium, United Kingdom and Ireland. Its activities are organised in specialised divisions. The organisation has grown strongly in recent years. The financial function was partly centrally managed and partly decentralised. In order to continue this growth in a controlled way, there was a need for a sounding board, a mirror and pragmatic advice on the optimal set-up of the finance function and in particular the financial top structure. Facilicom asked Improven to advise on the design of the finance and control top structure, with special attention to a benchmark of the finance function, a proposal for a future-proof top structure (including the internal audit function) and the delivery of a roadmap.

Our approach and results

We approached the study along three lines to ensure advice underpinned by multiple pillars.

First, we interviewed a number of key stakeholders from the board, management and the finance and control function to get a broad picture of what the desired level of ambition is and what the starting situation is. This resulted in a supported view on the ambition level of the finance function. The second pillar was to carry out a benchmarking exercise, comparing the performance and scope of the finance function against an international benchmark. Third, we studied information on financial planning and accountability and guiding frameworks. We discussed this information, together with our analysis and expertise on finance and control, at length with the CFO and CEO. Besides aspects relating to structure, processes and role distribution, we paid particular attention to the good fit with the Facilicom Group's corporate culture.

In conclusion, Improven, in consultation with Facilicom Group, drew up a roadmap in which concrete actions with realistic planning and substantive coherence were presented. This formulated actions in the areas of organisational design, task allocation and cooperation, process design and personnel. A good blueprint on which Facilicom will build in the coming years
