On 1 February, I started at Improven as a junior consultant. Exciting, but fortunately I was given time to find my niche and get to know my colleagues and departments well. After two weeks, I got the chance to apply for a job at the Netherlands' largest international beer brewery and before I knew it, I could start working!
In the first weeks of my assignment, getting to know the environment was key. As Project Management Officer, it is important for me to have a quick overview of the programme and know who is involved. Therefore, I spent a lot of time onboarding, conducting interviews and defining my range of tasks. My duties included monitoring the overall progress of the programme, communicating milestones to stakeholders, keeping track of the project schedule and establishing governance, such as mapping the meeting structure and paying attention to the team and organisation.
As my work is diverse, no two days are the same and I regularly have to switch between different tasks. One day I am busy designing posters to create more visibility for the programme, and the next day I report (together with the overall manager and IT manager) the progress of the programme to the steering committee. I also interact a lot with people on the shop floor, communicating with people from all levels of the organisation.
What I like about this is that I get the chance to talk to people from different disciplines and backgrounds. No two conversations are the same and I learn a lot about how people differ in their ways of communicating, interpreting and their preferences in dealing. The focus on the human aspect from my role is something I enjoy working on!
