Fruit and vegetable organisation

At an organisation that has been processing fresh raw materials into ready-to-eat vegetables, processed fruit and meal salads for more than 50 years, IMPROVEN conducted the Data Quality Quickscan. The organisation supplies supermarkets, fast food chains, wholesalers and catering companies, among others. To work well with all chain partners, it is important that data quality is of a high level. This organisation asked IMPROVEN to measure the maturity of master data through the Data Quality Quickscan.

Our approach

IMPROVEN's Data Quality QuickScan identifies improvement actions with regard to current data definitions, data governance, application landscape, data awareness and data processes. Figure 1 illustrates these five pillars, with the level of maturity determining the level of data quality. These components were tested for the selected data domains by analysing internal documentation, conducting interviews with process owners and analysing the data.

Result

The Data Quality Quickscan showed that improvements could be made in the areas of data governance and data processes. In the area of data governance improvements were identified in communication and coordination between departments, impact of activities later in the chain and data ownership.

In the area of data processes, improvements were identified in automation and data entry. Manual work and multiple entry of certain data increases the risk of incorrect data entry and discrepancies between systems.

The findings of the Data Quality Quickscan were developed by IMPROVEN into a concrete advisory document containing the entire analysis of the Data Management Framework. In addition, IMPROVEN outlined a roadmap prioritising improvement activities.
