Shadow IT: inevitable and risky

The new way of working offers employer and employee a lot of flexibility and often cost savings. However, it also comes with a big risk. For it is quite easy and even tempting to use one's own applications, tools and physical devices within the working environment without explicit permission. Think of (free) tools like Dropbox, WeTransfer or Google Drive, but also USB sticks and private laptops or apps on personal mobile phones. We call this phenomenon Shadow IT. And often your employees are completely unaware of their own role in it.

As easy as it sounds, for organisations it is much more dangerous than it seems. We are all guilty of it regularly and therefore mostly unconsciously. It seems harmless, but it cost Hillary Clinton the US presidency. Shadow IT is currently one of the biggest Security and Data Risks out there.
