Can the Netherlands count on its accountants?

On 10 September 2019, the Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants (NBA) kicked off the campaign Netherlands counts on its accountants, finished with a full-page advertisement in the Financial Dagblad. With this campaign, which can be heard on the radio via BNR Nieuwsradio and Radio 1, the NBA wants to improve the accountant's image and strengthen the profession's relevance to society. The aim of the campaign is for a larger part of society to recognise the public importance of the accountant's role. After all: accountants vouch for the public interest.

An auditor performs an audit to provide assurance on the fairness of the information contained in the financial statements. The board (the shareholders' meeting) of an organisation may appoint an auditor to conduct an audit of that organisation's financial statements. The auditors who conduct the statutory audit must be affiliated with an audit firm that is registered in the register of the Financial Markets Authority (AFM).
