What happens when you put your knowledge and expertise to work for a social cause?
At IMPROVEN, we believe it is important to make a positive social impact not only amongst our clients, but also beyond. That is why we give our colleagues the opportunity to use their knowledge and talents to support social initiatives.
Young Improvers Eline and Anna show how: Eline helped young people discover their talents and future opportunities, whilst Anna used her data expertise to make an organisation more inclusive.
Eline as a career coach at JINC
In this role, she supported young people in discovering their talents, future opportunities and next steps towards further education or employment.
What made the biggest impression on her? That personal attention can make all the difference. A pupil who initially showed little interest in the programme gradually became motivated to think about their ambitions and future. It was precisely that experience that demonstrated just how much of an impact genuine attention can have.
Anna makes a difference with data
For Anna, social impact took on a different meaning. She put her expertise as a data consultant to use at the Regenboog Groep, an organisation dedicated to supporting people in vulnerable situations in Amsterdam. The organisation wanted to gain a better understanding of how staff members experience inclusion and to what extent the workforce reflects the diverse society of Amsterdam. This required a comprehensive analysis of the available staff data.
As a data consultant, Anna was able to bring these insights to light for the organisation. Through her contribution to the diversity and inclusion survey, Anna helped to uncover these insights. This is an issue that is relevant to many organisations, but can be particularly important for civil society organisations.
The results formed the basis for a new diversity, inclusion and equality plan. In this way, she helped the Regenboog Group to take a more targeted approach to creating an even more inclusive organisational culture.
Making a difference by doing what you’re good at
Although Eline and Anna’s roles were different, their experiences share one key similarity: both use their knowledge and talents to make a positive impact on society. That social commitment aligns with what we at IMPROVEN consider important: applying our knowledge where we can genuinely add value, both for our clients and for society.
So: what happens when you use your knowledge and expertise for a social cause?
It’s not about making a grand gesture, but rather about channelling knowledge, attention and expertise to where they’re most needed. Young people gain a better outlook on the future. A community organisation gains the insights needed to continue building an inclusive future. And at the same time, it also benefits the colleague themselves: new experiences, a broader perspective and the opportunity to grow further, both professionally and personally.
For us, that is the power of social engagement: doing what you’re good at and, in doing so, making a difference where it counts.
