4th Podcast: Podcast: Perfectionism,.....you shouldn't want it...

Do you still hear yourself saying it in your job interview: 'Euhm, I am quite a bit of a perfectionist, because well, I am very driven and always want to deliver the best quality!'

This is mainly to come across as nicely ambitious or to disguise the fact that you don't always get off to a fast start and may come to completion of some things sooner.

But beware! Perfectionism as a trait says a lot more and has a lot more impact than it first appears. In that sense, it is the other side of the coin of continuous improvement and striving for perfection. Because what if you try hard, but for all sorts of reasons this turns into perfectionism?

We will discuss this with Marjon Bohré (organisational psychologist, striver for more humanity within organisations and author of the book The Perfection Paradox). She takes us through how it arises, why it is on the rise in society, but above all how paralysing it is. For yourself and for an organisation.

If you've listened to this podcast, then you'll know why all alarm bells should go off for you when someone uses the word perfectionist and that prevention starts as early as raising children. One reassurance if you are a bit of a perfectionist yourself, it is generally learned behaviour so you can do something about it!
