Although 2020 is only eight weeks old, many larger Security incidents were already in the news. The Citrix leak led to serious problems for thousands of users worldwide. In the Netherlands, through swift action, it mainly affected the many thousands of home workers. Not every organisation got away with it so easily unfortunately, Maastricht University had to pay almost 2 tonnes of "ransom" to be able to use systems blocked by hackers again.
The Citrix leak received a 9.8 on a scale of 10 from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in terms of the severity of the vulnerability. The Personal Data Authority still registered around 6 thousand serious data breaches in 2016, for 2019 the estimate is that there were already over 25 thousand.
To really secure important IT environments and data, merely investing in Security hardware is no longer enough. Increasingly, not only employees, but also suppliers, chain partners and customers have access to the IT environment. Partly because Cloud working has taken such a huge flight, more and more unconscious risks exist. As many as 80% of data breaches are caused by human error.
Professional (IT) Security anno 2020 requires both top-down attention and profound process and behavioural changes within organisations. From securing Security attention in the IT strategy and IT policy, to improving generic IT controls such as Identity & Access Management and making organisations aware of (unconsciously) risky behaviour within the still rapidly growing Cloud work.
This requires a fundamentally different DNA within organisations. With IT Excellence, Improven helps organisations both look ahead effectively and execute flexibly. Around the IT themes of Strategy, Governance, Selection, Automation, Integration and Security.
