Measurement is important because process data allows you to make informed decisions about the bottlenecks in the process and the improvement potential you can realise.

Tips:

  • Watch for contradictions in the CTQ Flowdown. Sometimes the wishes of one customer contradict the wishes of another. For example, management may go for low cost while customers expect extra service.
  • This is often when it becomes clear that there are no clear standards for performance. For example, customer requirements are not really known or concrete and/or internal customers have never set production standards. That is the moment to go back to the Champion to get clarity on this. After all, without a standard, everything is right (or everything is wrong).
