General Purpose & Requirements of The Job

The Group Controller is entrusted with the stewardship of the company’s assets and financials, ensuring the integrity of consolidated financials (with > EUR 9 billion of revenues and total assets of EUR 4,3 billion and operating in over 24 countries), compliance with internal controls, and the mitigation of risks. As an experienced finance professional, the Group Controller is responsible for the organization’s adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements through the establishment of company-wide financial policies, procedures, and controls.

The Group Controller oversees internal and external reporting, consolidation, Group FP&A, accounting, investment and M&A analysis, internal control, risk management, and insurance. This role is crucial in driving continuous improvement and developing the finance function to effectively support the company’s strategic agenda. The Group Controller works closely with the CFO and other key stakeholders to play a vital role in the finance transformation journey.

Key skills Requirements

  • Master degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Economics or equivalent
  • More than 15 years of work experience as accountant or controller with performance exceeding requirements.
  • Preferably experience at a big four accounting firm
  • Fluency in English, verbally and in writing
  • Preferably international experience, from work, study or family life
  • In depth knowledge of IFRS and preferably Dutch GAAP

Key Responsibilities

1.          Driving decisions

  • Act as the voice of the CFO and plays a role of strategic advisor to the business by constructively challenging and influencing decisions to drive growth projects, innovation and creativity
  • Internal reporting, including consolidated monthly management accounts, and ad-hoc reporting to business with the ability to refresh and develop reporting to ensure it remains insightful and fit for purpose

 2.          Reporting, Compliance and controls

  • Ownership of accurate, timely and compliant internal- & external reporting (incl consolidation of business units in over 24 countries), including the statutory annual report
  • Set the framework (policies, procedures, governance) and implement across Finance
  • Drive improvement of local accounting and reporting quality
  • Ensure insightful and timely management reporting via the FP&A team. External reporting, including drafting of board packs/shareholder reporting and reporting to other key stakeholders
  • Member of the SHVE Energy Audit Committee
  • ESG Reporting, produce timely and accurate ESG reports in collaboration with the Sustainability Team and drive an effective ESG environment including policies, procedures and control (note this is under development and may partially move to separate team. Hence close cooperation and coordination will be essential)

3.          Financial leadership

  • Direct and align FP&A, Consolidation, Accounting and Insurance departments to achieve cohesive financial strategy and operations, ensuring comprehensive control and compliance
  • Lead the Head Office Finance department and provide insight to stakeholders on the cost and FTE development
  • Provide leadership to the finance organization (i.e. setting individual objectives, reviewing performance and providing ongoing feedback on a(n) (in)formal basis) so that all employees are aware of what they are required to achieve and how they are performing against their objectives

 4.          Finance transformation

  • Support the CFO in driving change initiatives like setting up FP&A as a central function and continuous improvement projects including next steps in automation.

Benefits package

Salaris range: € 145K tot € 200K

Bonus: On target 20% – Maximaal 30%
